"Fail forward." "Be gritty." "Own your pursuit." Just a few phrases that have been drilled into my psyche since embarking on my development as a Software Engineer. And I will not be looking back.
I have always had a love for the arts; especially drawing and painting. As I got older, I discovered my love for technology. Back in High School, I would notice my mother messing around with HTML and it piqued my interest. It then occurred to me that Web Development would allow me to not only express myself creatively, but also have fun experimenting with technology. That's when I realized back in High School that the Software Engineering world is where I am meant to be.
I am especially grateful to my mother for being the one to find Pursuit. Her effort and support is a large part of the reason I have been able to accomplish what I have thus far.
I have spent the last several months getting rigorous professional training at Pursuit (formerly Coalition for Queens or C4Q); an intensive 10-month, Google-funded software engineering fellowship with a 9% acceptance rate (out of 1500+ applicants) that prepares the graduates with both technical and professional skills. This has allowed me to gain hands-on experience with multiple languages, with a focus on a React.js frontend and a Node.js backend, APIs, Git, Data Structures, Algorithms, and tech principles and culture through both team and individual projects, code reviews, and pair programming.
